Tell Me More: Trinity Mouzon Wofford, Founder & CEO of Golde

Introduce yourself to our readers! Who are you and what do you do?
Hi! I'm Trinity, founder & CEO at Golde. We make feel-good essentials for beauty and wellness, powered by superfoods.

How do you interpret self-care?
Self-care is all about taking whatever steps you need to be your best self.

How do you practice self-care?
As a founder I often am juggling multiple priorities at once, so my top practice of self-care is staying organized. If I'm at my best, I'll make a list the night before of what I need to handle the next day so I can handle everything with efficiency. That said, the occasional bubble bath helps too.

What's your current skincare routine? Has it evolved? How and why?
I really try to keep it as simple and natural as possible. I've always been acne-prone, and the pollution/water quality in NYC definitely has a big impact. My number one recommendation is a shower filter to remove chlorine and other irritants from your tap water — I like Aquabliss. In the past, I've used really harsh acids on my skin, but I found that totally stripping my natural barriers was just leading to more irritation and congestion. Right now to cleanse I'm loving Savon Stories face wash for normal skin. Unfortunately, they're based in the UK and don't have US distribution yet! Following that, I spritz with Marie Veronique's Probiotic Face Mist, which is so so good for locking in hydration. Then I finish with Chidoriya's Secret de Maiko face cream. That cream is holy grail status for me — the shea base really locks in moisture but doesn't leave you greasy at all. We're actually working on a couple of new products for Golde that have been game changers for my skin as well. I'm so excited to launch those, stay tuned for more details!

I can confidently say that we’re all huge fans of Golde over at LeCC. What inspired you to create your products? What was that moment where you were like, “Oh damn, I can do this for real!”?
Thanks! It was really a matter of looking at the wellness space and feeling that there was room for a more approachable, feel-good vibe. So often people look at wellness and say "Oh, that's not for me. I don't have $70 to spend on a single powder, or I don't have crystals under my bed." We wanted to make it cool to explore the power of superfoods that were easy to use and engaging. We started *really* small, with one single formula that we blended by hand! Honestly, we didn't know it was going to scale to this extent. But we're so glad that we went for it — getting to partner with some of the biggest retailers in the game has been truly humbling.

You’re the founder of a growing business, which we all know can be overwhelming at times. How do you balance your career with taking care of yourself?
Last year I was really focused on growth, and my wellbeing totally suffered. I was anxious, stressed, and breaking out like crazy. At a certain point, I realized this had to stop. I completely refocused my priorities, and within a week I felt like a new person. And would you believe it, business is better than ever. I had to remind myself why I actually started this — to invest in my potential, to explore new opportunities, and to have some fun. It's easy to lose sight of that when the pressures of it all start caving in on you. I recommend checking in with yourself every so often to make sure that your short-term goals align with your long-term ones..and make sure that happiness is at the top of that list.
