Skincare concern: Managing oily skin
LCC: Tea tree oil is an ingredient that is so often used in formulations for managing acne. You should also know that it’s really good for preventing hyperpigmentation, which can be a result of former acne lesions. However, some people can be very sensitive to essential oils like tea tree, causing irritation and unwanted dryness. I know you’ve got oily skin, but this is not a great full-face ingredient. So far you only use it at the beginning of a breakout, which is good. For tea tree oil, stick to using it as a spot treatment. If you have dry or sensitive skin, tea tree oil may not be the ingredient for you.
Then every other day I like to use La Roche Posay Serozinc spray because I have really oily skin and it mattes my T-zone.
LCC: Apparently there are only 3 ingredients in this product -- talk about minimalism. Water, Sodium chloride, and zinc sulfate. Sodium chloride, also known as salt bae, is by no means a sexy ingredient, but it does work effectively. It’s able to penetrate deep into the skin-changing osmotic pressure (the flow of water) and even stimulate nerve receptors. That last one doubles as an anti-inflammatory agent making it perfect for acne management as well. The zinc compound zinc gluconate, is a close cousin and better tolerated by the skin. I guess there’s value in brevity. Based on these ingredients, this formulation is the perfect mattifying one you need.
If I use it everyday, its power diminishes. I also really like Kiehl's under eye treatment with avocado oil because it really wakes up my skin or sometimes Lancome eye cream. Then for moisturizer I use Kiehl's ultra facial cream because it doesn't clash with my oily skin. If I need something heavier I like to use Fresh vitamin nectar moisture glow face cream. At least two times a week I try to do a face mask. I like the Dermalogica charcoal face mask, La Roche Posay effacler mask (really cleans out my pores), and Nuxe Paris Masque Purifiant Doux (smells amazing).
LCC: Masking, is pleasure time for your face. Do it early and often. Activated charcoal is an interesting ingredient for us because of how it can get misused or mis-marketed. It was originally used by doctors in extreme cases of poisoning or toxin exposure to draw them out of the body. But for ordinary detox-relief, it doesn’t do much. However, it is helpful for drying out pimples and controlling oil production on the face.
LCC: My body is readyyyy (a phrase we use often). While your face is a focal point for beauty, you need to think about your whole body. We’re so glad to see that you take them time to give yourself a proper rub down. Water loss happens all over your body and we feel that most during the summer when we sweat. Take the extra 2-3 minutes and show your whole body some lovin’.
I also really like Lush's Mint Julips lip exfoliator because I get really chapped lips. Throughout the day if my face feels like it needs moisture sometimes I use Caudalie eau de raisin. I like to remove all my makeup with Bioderma or Neutrogena face wipes.
LCC: Major props for saving prime purse real estate for a facial moisturizer. Seriously, on the go skincare and beauty is what pros are made of. Throughout the day you encounter external factors like the sun, wind, the bad breath of the guy manspreading next to you on the subway. There’s nothing like a dewy refresher to keep you going throughout the day. We also recommend a hydrating face mist for easy application on the go.
Grape juice and grape water are the main ingredients in this product which means it’s packing some serious anti-oxidant power in addition to hydration. Pair this with a second application of sunscreen and you’ve got a full on longevity (done using the term anti-aging) routine going.
